ViparSpectra - V1000 - 100W
Product Information:
The ViparSpectra V1000 is a fantastic grow light with great build quality and a dimmer to control light intensity. These have a coverage of 2’ x 2’ or 3’ x 3’ at a greater height to allow more light dispersion. I have used a previous model (P1000) for many years and have several in my growing areas. They have a slightly warm color temperature and can get extremely bright. The build quality is excellent and sturdy, with a total of 324 LEDs — 11 × 660nm, 206 × 3000K, 106 × 5000K, and 1 x IR 730. These lights are extremely powerful for their size, so I often run them between 25-75% depending on the height and the plants.
NOTE: Lights have free shipping and will ship separately from plants.
Wattage: 100W
LEDs: 2.6 μmol/j; dimmable
Dimensions: 11.7”L x 10.4”W
PPF: ~260 μmol/s
Species: most all high light plants including Drosera, Flytraps, Sarracenia, Cephalotus, Darlingtonia, most Tropical Pinguicula, Heliamphora, etc. Can also be used at a lower intensity for medium light plants.
Lighting:
Lighting is one of the most important aspects of growing carnivorous plants. Most carnivorous plants prefer very strong light, and the best results come from high quality LED grow lights. Not only does it stimulate fast growth, the plants will attain beautiful coloration — bright red tentacles on Sundews, red mouths on Flytraps, pink/purple/red on Tropical Butterworts, and deep reds on Sarracenia just as a few examples (some species will stay green in bright light but will be healthier). Sundews will produce more dew under proper lighting (not usually an issue with water, but lighting)! Bright light can make the plants a bit more compact and robust, but the increased health and better appearance are absolutely worth it.
Using LEDs is simple, and most designs have a dimmer switch to adjust the light intensity. Mount them over your growing area and roughly calculate the light intensity based on distance and dispersion.
Cheap LEDs are too weak, extremely energy inefficient, and limited in spectrum (types of light “color” that plants need). High quality LEDs are essential for healthy plants and will use far less energy and produce less heat (and last for many, many years). I’ve personally vetted and used these LEDs for my plants and can attest to their quality and function.
