Utricularia fulva
Description
Utricularia fulva is a wonderfully unique species of tropical Bladderwort. It produces incredible, bunny-shaped flowers that are orange and yellow with red speckling. The leaves are very thin and grass-like which spread across the surface of the pot (and sometimes out of the bottom as well). As a bladderwort, its carnivorous traps are subterranean, shaped like little bladders that use suction to inhale tiny prey. This cultivar originates from Rockhole, Western Australia.
This species grows at the edges of shallow, sandy creeks in the hot climate of Australia’s far north. It is easy to grow in hot and humid environments like a heated terrarium. It can flower profusely in good conditions and with regular feeding. The blooms are about 0.5” wide.
Plant will come potted in a 2.5”x2.5”x3.5” pot. Photo 4 is roughly representative of the pot you will receive. They will quickly grow to fill out the pot under good conditions.
Growing Information
Climate: Lowland tropical temperatures of 60-95F and high humidity are best.
Light: Part Sun or at least 15W per sq ft LED light.
Water: Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. Keep the soil constantly wet and do not allow it to dry out. It actually likes soggy/waterlogged conditions as long as it has good lighting.
Soil: 50% Peat Moss: 50% Sand/Perlite. Rinse media with distilled or reverse osmosis water to remove excess salts.
Feeding: Feed with MaxSea fertilizer diluted to 1/4 tsp per gallon every month. Lightly spray the leaves but do not overfeed, especially in undrained containers.
